Designer Alexandra Fruhstorfer wondered how can we design for future production processes in an age of decreasing resources availability. Her solution is the "Transitory Yarn" - a transitory thread - that can disassemble a garment several times beyond its life cycle and to be able to give it an ever new purpose. This is achieved through a special process of unravelling and re-knitting the thread. The project was developed to provide a possible solution to the planned obsolescence in fashion. The thread is equipped with a smart tag able to record data such as wearer, lifetime and the lifecycle of the yarn.
