Project Ara is a modular smartphone which can be easily upgraded by swapping individual components, or modules, in a plug and play style. The phone's architecture uses 1×2 and 2×2 modules easily assembled by interlocking, without requiring the use of screws, adhesives or special tools. The revolution inherent in this project is aesthetical (colours, materials and finishes) and functional (data storage, functions, requirements) upgradability of the single module.
