In response to growing sustainability concerns and the desire for experience-driven lifestyles among young people, a goup of students from Umeå Institute of Design has developed a concept for a monthly appliance subscription service called Philips One. The service aims to facilitate a circular flow of resources by enabling the seamless sharing of products between roommates.
To explore and develop a new design language, three appliances were designed as part of the Philips One product line. The result is a timeless and optimistic vision for what sustainable products could look like.
By focusing on a service model that promotes circularity, Philips One offers a truly sustainable solution that goes beyond simply adjusting the product's materiality. Through this approach, the company hopes to contribute to a more sustainable future while also meeting the needs and desires of modern consumers.
Philips One represents a significant step forward in the world of sustainable design and innovation, and is a promising example of how companies can use creativity and ingenuity to tackle environmental challenges while also meeting consumer demands.
